Dhorpatan hunting reserve falls under Dhaulagiri trekking region in western Nepal and links Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung districts. Established in 1983, Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve covers area of 1325 sq km. Known as off the beaten trekking trail of Dhaulagiri region, Dhorpatan hunting trekking is an attractive trip for hunting enthusiasts. Dhorpatan Hunting reserve is the only reserve which allows controlled hunting during precise hunting seasons with proper licenses and permits issued by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation.

In addition to hunting, Dhorpatan is also an excellent destination for those who are greatly interest in wildlife and nature. Dhorpatan hunting reserve houses range flora species including fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce. The reserve serves as the prime habitat of blue sheep (a highly prized trophy animal and the main target of hunters), and other game species viz. Ghoral, Serow, Himalayan Tahr, Black Bear Pheasant and Partridge. The reserve’s altitude ranges from 2,850m to 7,000m, and for the purpose of better management it has been divided into six different blocks. As an added reward it provides superb views of the regal mountains of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range.
