Kusum Kanguru, famed with different names like Kusum Kangguru, Kusum Kangru, Kusum Kang, Kusum Khangru, and Mt. Kanguru, is among the challenging yet rewarding trekking peak in the Khumbu Himalayan Region of Nepal. Similarly, the name of the peak is believed to have meaning of “Three Snow-White Gods as sourced from Sherpa language referring to the triple summit of the mountain. The north-south ridge of the mountain is extend between the Dudh Khosi River and Hinku valley. With the altitude of 6367 meters above the sea level, the peak stands as the key source of Kusum Khola of the region.

The peak has been classified as group “B” climbing peak by NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association). For being technically complicated the peak is fairly approach by the trekkers. So, most often the attempt to the peak has run out of success citing to the fact that only nine successful attempts out of twenty between 1978 and 1998 have been recorded.

The peak was first approached in 1979 by a Japanese expedition led by Ken Kanazawa. However, the first successful ascent of the summit was made by Bill Denz (New Zealand) in 1981 through the west face. The summit offers majestic panorama of great Himalayan peaks including mighty Mt. Everest (8848 m), Mt. Makalu (8463 m), Mt. Nuptse (7855 m), Mt. Cho Oyu (8201), Mt. Lhotse (8516 m), and many among others. So, this stuff offers inspiring opportunity for rock and ice climbing.
