Opened for trekkers since 1988, Kanchenjunga trekking region is a less frequented but classy trekking destination in eastern Nepal. Mt. Kanchenjunga 8586m, the third tallest mountain in the world serves as the main highlight of this trip. Kanchenjunga trekking region borders the Indian and Tibetan Territory and is adorned with amazing geography, diverse culture and tradition and boasts the unmatched vista of majestic Himalayan Mountains viz. Kanchenjunga, Everest, Makalu and Lhotse
Kanchenjunga trekking region is a restricted trekking region and is protected and managed by Kanchenjunga Conservation Area; the trekking in this region requires special trekking permit. The conservation area is spread in an area of 2,035 sq. Km and comprises of diverse flora and fauna. The varied habitats of the area include marshes, river gullies, and steep slopes with crevices, lush valleys and dry alpine grasslands. Antu Danda trek, Kanchenjunga north base camp trek, Kanchenjunga south base camp trek, Pathibhara trek, Milke danda trek, Kanchenjunga base camp trek are the major trekking trails in the region. The Kanchenjunga Trekking trail has also achieved international acknowledgment as a global ecological region by the WWF.
The major trekking trails in Kanchenjunga region start either from Suketar of Taplejung or Basantapur of Terhathum district.
