Best Season for this Trip:
Spring, this time is considered another peak season trekking in Kali Gandaki Valley. Most of the period, it retains pretty favorable weather, especially through the daytime, with temperature ranges in the lower area from 10°C to 20°C, Rhododendrons blossom along the trekway, coloring the shades of natures. This is also best for the sightings, as the skies are clear, viewing perfect and panoramic sights of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Nilgiri peaks. It will be a very apt season for adventurous people and those who love nature.
Autumn is another perfect time for this trek because it has stable weather, moderate temperatures, and crystal-clear skies. The dust and pollution brought in by the monsoon rains wash away, making the mountains wonderfully beautiful. Temperatures fluctuate from 5°C to 15°C; hence, comfortable for trekking. In addition, the greatest festivals of Nepal, Dashain and Tihar, fall on this season, and the rich culture and tradition of the people are enjoyed by the trekkers.
Winter (December to February), It gets below -10°C during winter, really cold, and snowfall buries everything in Muktinath. The routes may be icy or blocked for trekking. However, winter trekking is really peaceful due to the crisp mountain air, with much fewer crowds on the trails. You can continue this trek in proper preparations with the right winter gear, especially in its lower altitude parts like Jomsom and Kagbeni.
Monsoon, June to August, As high rainfall, slippery trails, and high possibilities of landslides occur in this season, it is also not good for trekking. High humidity still remains in the region, although the leeches on the lower trails appear commonly. Although it receives very few rains, as the Upper Mustang Region lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, it may be possible for experienced trekkers. Consequently, it makes valleys green and attractive with different beauties.
Food and Accommodations on Trip:
Traveling through the Kali Gandaki Valley feels easy and enjoyable, thanks to all the food and places to stay along the way. You’ll get to try classic Nepali dishes Dal Bhat, Dhido, Thukpa, Momo and if you’re craving something different, there’s always pasta, fried rice, noodles, pancakes, or soup on the menu. The apples from Marpha are something you shouldn’t miss, whether you snack on them fresh or try some of the local apple products. And when you’re ready to warm up, lodges and teahouses serve tea, coffee, hot lemon, and other drinks.
Most nights, you’ll stay in cozy teahouses, lodges, or guesthouses. Rooms are usually set up for two people and have comfortable beds, blankets, and either shared or attached bathrooms it depends where you are. In bigger towns like Pokhara, Jomsom, or Muktinath, you can treat yourself to nicer hotels with perks like hot showers, Wi-Fi, and good dining areas. What really makes the trip, though, is the kindness and warmth of the local people. Their hospitality sticks with you long after the journey’s over.
