Best Season for this Trip:

Although the Milke Danda Trek may be done at any time of year, spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are the best times to go. But as every season has unique traits, below is a summary of all four.

This is one of the best times to trek the Milke Danda Trail. Weather is excellent, temperatures are pleasant, and the view is greener with blooming rhododendron forests. The time also has an ideal mixture of good weather and great visibility, which is ideal for trekking. The chances of wildlife sightings are common with the animals coming to life in the spring season. Autumn is the most favorable trekking season in Nepal. The weather is good, the temperatures are moderate, and the skies are clear, giving trekkers unrestricted views of the Himalayan mountains. Autumn air is crisp and clean, with excellent visibility for wide-angle mountain views. It is the peak season on the trekking trails due to its best trekking conditions. Winter is marked by lower temperatures, especially at higher elevations, and is less suitable for trekkers.

While the landscape is as picturesque, the cold could be challenging, and snow at higher elevations can make the path impassable. This time of the year is perfect for seasoned trekkers who can withstand the snow and cold as there are fewer travelers to choose from at this time. Monsoon is the worst time for trekking in Nepal. The rains make the paths slippery and difficult to walk on. The forests and fields are greener, but visibility is poor due to rain clouds, and it is uncomfortable and risky to walk in rain. The movement of leeches is also during this time.

Food and Accommodations on Trip:

The trek to Milke Danda not only astounds you with its beautiful scenery, but it also gives you an experience of life in the simplest and most genuine way through the hospitality along the way. Mainly, the accommodation comes from local teahouses, community lodges, and family guesthouses in the villages along the path. These places offer basic rooms that are still quite comfortable, typically equipped with twin-sharing beds mattresses pillows, and blankets. Luxury is almost non-existent, yet the heartfelt friendliness of local hospitable people and the tranquility of the mountain area make the hike very enjoyable and hard to forget. The food that you have during the trek is mainly prepared fresh by local households.

These families use ingredients from the region when possible. Trekkers can sample a range of traditional Nepali dishes like dal bhat, vegetable curries rice noodles, fried rice potatoes soups, and Tibetan bread. When in bigger places, there might be even more choices like momos pasta pancakes, eggs tea coffee, and seasonal fruits. Through these meals, trekkers get their necessary nutrition and energy boost to comply with the long-from-the-hills-and-forests-of-eastern-Nepal style trekking days.

When the trek enters even more remote areas, the options for accommodation and food become much simpler. Though, they are still adequate and comfortable for the trekkers. There is a hot meal served every day, and the usual dining rooms have traditional wood-burning stoves that keep the place warm during cold nights. Apart from this, lodging at local houses is a great way for travelers to meet the people and understand the culture of Rai and Limbu communities as well as to experience the warm Himalaya hospitality which is the main attraction of Milke Danda Trek.
